  • Brings together community resources in Kanawha and Putnam counties to create a common plan for responding to emergencies.
  • Sponsors drills that test the emergency response plan.
  • Maintains a common emergency response plan for first responders.
  • Evaluates the plan’s effectiveness after actual incidents and revises plan accordingly.
  • Provides citizens with information about the location of toxic chemicals in their community.
  • Provides information to help citizens prepare themselves, their families, and their workplaces for all types of emergencies.
  • Examples: Family Preparedness, Shelter In Place, Radio Communication Service, Worksite Visits
  • Offers a forum for communities, governments, industry and citizens to work cohesively toward common emergency management goals.

The Kanawha Putnam Emergency Planning Commission membership consists of approximately 125 representatatives from local agencies and organizations that play a role in the emergency response planning:

Interested parties may apply for membership by completing the online Membership Application.  

Voluntary Membership Contributions

KPEPC asks all member organizations to support the committee through voluntary contributions. Contributions are not required for participation. Your organization’s generous contributions are utilized to facilitate the emergency planning needs of Kanawha and Putnam counties. All contributions are tax deductible since the KPEPC is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.


General Membership Meetings

Members must attend a minimum of half of the General Membership meetings during the year to establish voting privileges at the annual Board of Direction election in December. The general membership of the Kanawha Putnam Emergency Planning Committee meets bimonthly on the last Wednesday of the month, except in December. The meetings are at:
